The leading quote sort of implies it’s been a while since Stanford was a football powerhouse, but mostly brags about its academics:

Four Stanford graduates have become Supreme Court justices since the football team produced its only Heisman Trophy winner, Jim Plunkett, in 1970.

Now that my alma mater, Brown, is in reputational free fall, I’m turning my rooting energy toward Stanford. My buddy Hector puts on these great tailgates every Saturday, and the atmosphere in Palo Alto is fantastic. I feel like I’ve been accepted as an honorary alum, with a mutual wink that I never could have cut it in class there back in my misspent youth :-)
